Judging by e-mails and conversation, the closing of the general store
has been more emotional event than people expected. It's not hard to
see why. The
secondary function of Bloom's General Store was being the local town
hall where residents gathered to plan and rally for art shows, business
and neighborhood amenities.
Just as important to note are the neighborhoods that were around before
1999––before the wave of new residents in the Old Bank District and
South Park gave a new heartbeat to Downtown––there's always been a
pulse of City living.
Since I was on a brief
morning medical leave from VFaL, I called Pamela Rouse to take on a
last minute assignment that speaks of passages and transition; Bloom's
General Store being cleared away.
More can be seen at her Flickr set.
