Dodger fan Carlos wore this message at Fisherman's Outlet the day of Game 2. He may be right. The Dodgers won 10-3, thanks in part to errors by the Cubs infield. Game 3 is Saturday. and part of a busy day in Downtown L.A.
It's nothing Downtown hasn't seen before: In October 2006, the Grand Avenue Festival was part of a busy Saturday busy also had the Dodgers home for the playoffs, a USC game, and the Detour Festival and the city didn't fall apart. Still, there's enough stuff going on, so commuters coming in and through Downtown should plan accordingly.
Oh, the word on the street is Hillary will be making a stop at El Pueblo sometime Friday afternoon.
Oh yes, don't forget to join us for shootdowntown,
BLUE CREW: The Los Angeles Dodgers take the momentum of a surprising Game 1 and Game 2 manhandling of the Chicago Cubs into Dodger Stadium for Game 3 of the NLDS at 7pm. Count on some of the 56,000 fans to clog Sunset Blvd, the 101 Freeway, and the 110.
MORE 110: Adding to traffic on the Harbor Freeway is the 5pm USC game against Oregon in the Coliseum, and cross town traffic will be following UCLA to see what they can do against Washington at the Rose Bowl for a 7:15 pm game . . –– Plus, there's a DJ music event at the Shrine Auditorium at 6pm while at 7pm, and at Staples Center, the doors open at 7pm for the Neil Diamond concert that begins at 8pm.
BURNING MAN Decompression Festival will be held at Los Angeles State Historical Park, AKA the Cornfields, from noon to Midnight.
CLOSURES: Around City Hall, Temple, First, and Main, the L.A. Weekly Detour music festival could pull up to 12,000 concert-goers into the streets of Downtown. The concert opens the gates at noon, but its the evening that gets the heavy lifting when The Mars Volta and Gogol Bordello hit the stage.
NEARBY: A few blocks away from the Detour Festival is Grand Avenue where the Walt Disney Concert Hall will have a double bill of concerts for children, one matinee and one evening performance. At the Music Center, The L.A. Opera has the opening weekend of "Madama Butterfly"; The Mark Taper Forum mounts the "The House of Blue Leaves"; and the Ahmanson Theatre continues "9 to 5: The Musical." And you can add a 5:30 reception for the opening of a new exhibit at El Pueblo Historical Monument “Sunshine and Struggle.”
BENEFIT: For concert goers arriving via the Metro, the popular entrance for the Detour Festival is on the south end at 2nd and Main. One short half- block away is The Edison, the venue hosting “Go Green for Obama Political Fundraiser,” a private event that has scheduled appearances by Sen. Hillary Clinton and performances by Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora. At $500 for general admission, $2,500 for VIP access, no one will be leaving early and security will be tight as supporters show up, unless they get afraid of a little traffic.
That shirt is awesome.
El Pueblo? I know she spoke at Edison Saturday night...still haven't seen any blog posts from someone who attended. I'm dying for the dish!
