Gather the village. Bring out the dogs. Light the torches. Our sign is missing.
On Saturday morning, I noticed the "Artist District" sign wasn't on the wall of Blooms General Store anymore. I went inside and asked about it, hoping it was just taken down to have the tagging cleaned off it. They didn't know it was gone.
It' was a theft. A heist. The sign that may seem insignificant, and misidentified the neighborhood from an innocent communications error, was nabbed from it's spot. Yes, plenty of official "Arts District" signs are around the border of the neighborhood, but what may be the last remaining "Artist District" sign may be now decorating a wall, somewhere else.
There's some history behind that sign, and how this neighborhood found it's identity. Later in the week: Why Arts District vs Artists District?

Dangit, that sucks. Perhaps similar to that identical freeway signage created by an artist and installed a couple years ago above the northbound 110, one of the residents of the area can craft a look-alike replacement!

I think we should send our very own SLO Kris after the crook! And if anyone finds it in someone's loft, send them over to me.
