The Original El Tepeyac is on the market. Yes, the home of the Hollenbeck Burrito, a monster so big it can feed a family of four (or one Garfield High School Offensive linemen) is now listed for $1,350,000. The 2,199 square feet shack that offers Chicano comfort food is up for sale despite 2008 was its "best year ever." Operated since 1957, 75-year old Manny still greets and seats people, and takes the time to sooth those waiting in long lines. Biz details at [loopnet]
* It's the property that's for sale, as the biz will stay in the family, i.e. land for sale, if you are willing to offer a 20 year lease with very durable tenant.

I have been a regular since 1971 and hope the new owner(s) do not change a thing.

Never fear, the Hollenbeck Burrito is here to stay. According to both chisme and published reports, it is only the building and the land that is up for sale. La familia Rojas will continue to operate the restaurant as they have for the last half of a century. In fact, their continued tenancy, as well as their acknowledged cash flow, is being touted as a prime selling point for the building's potential investors and buyers.
