Stories on Main Street

More Doors Open: Not quite the The Magi or the Three Kings from the east (of Broadway), we three almost-wise men, Bloggers Eric, Brady and myself, by chance visited the birth of a store this evening...The much needed book appeared through immaculate perception of owners Julie Swayze and Steve Bowie...Metropolis Books is on Main Street between 4th and 5th street and Julie told us they just ended a soft opening day already selling more inventory than expected.
Filming again? At first I thought was yet another empty room made up for a film shoot but looking closer, I saw it was a real bookstore I peered in and of course Eric was already there. As Brady arrived we all spent some time to welcome Julie and Steve to the neighborhood and heard about plans for the space to double as a gallery and be the site of some book signings....Yes, already the vocal ones asked about a magazine stand and Julie plans to look into it....The mood was right in a long space with warm walls making it a good place to tell some stories about Main Street. Metropolis Books is located at 440 S. Main Street, call (213) 612 0174 for hours.

The Missing Blogger While we were talking books, downtown blogger Don Garza was in rehearsal for La Virgen de Guadalupe Dios Inantizin at The Los Angeles Theatre Center. Presented by the Latino Theatre Company, this pagent about the "Miracle of the Four Apparitions of Our Lady of Guadelupe" will be December 7 and 8 at Cathedral de Nuestra Senora de Los Angeles...Inside theatre 3, parents watched director Jose Luis Valenzuela lead children along with actors Sal Lopez and Pepe Serna. Sign Update Another element that will add to Main Street is still on hold, reports Mark at Old Bank DVD. Their neon sign is done, the site is ready as they are still waiting on final permits. The Writing Blogger Ever committed, LACityNerd had lighter postings this month as he took on the challenge during National Novel Writing Month and wrote a first draft of a novel.
Paperworks Arts District Community Watch came out with a newsletter (looks good too) to keep this part of town updated on Neighborhood Walks and safety tips. Much of from emails, we will post some as they come along....the invite remains, to join neighborhood watch, bring a friend and bring a dog. More Dogs Pet supply store Lofty Dogs, as we said earlier, opened the smaller store at Spring and 7th. One More Dog The opening of Weeneez was a posting that has gathered more interest than expected. They told of us of all the emails and calls for veggie dogs and while doing doing a brisk business, they may hold off putting veggie dogs on the menu, but WILL make arrangements for any private party that gathers there. Lighting the Season This Saturday, the First Street Bridge will be lit for the holidays, and at El Publeo, the City of LA will light their tree at 5pm December 8.
