Blogger gets certified
So how does one give a competitive shout out to the way he covers downtown?
Trip him on his way to a posting? Steal his camera? Hack his website? Nah.
Arrange a certificate from the City of LA, courtesy of Jan Perry (and her
staff) who didn't even blink at the request to commend blogdowntown. Since
Eric's not one for formality, being nonplused about the world and all, I
simply handed it to him during the end of closing night of the photo exhibit
LA Souls. It read:
To Eric Richardson's blogdowntown.com that explores the Los Angeles community through the eyes of it’s residents.
Read by residents, artists, city officials and media, blogdowntown traces the history of forgotten buildings, documents the use of public space, interprets urban patterns; or just shares the day the to day experience of working and living in Downtown Los Angeles.
Authored by Eric Richardson since January 2005, blogdowntown.com is an example of a community blog successful in documenting an urban environment, encourage responsible commentary; all helping to make Downtown L.A. a small town.
Reading his posting today reminds me when I first starting reading blogs almost a year ago, Eric was the first neighborhood one I found and they don't get much better than his. And even though later I found out he had two of these commendations from his participation with neighborhood committees, I was glad to see his didn't have one for his work on Blogdowntown. I kinda scooped him.
Uh...but, Eric. Can you pass over a pic of the certificate? My camera
died and was in the shop. I didn't get a photo of it.
Added: So much for scoop, but it's all good. Don Garza writes to say "Eric received an award from the Town Crier for his work at Blogdowntown from the Los Angeles Town Crier at the LA Town Crier Ambassador of goodwill awards" from him and from Jan Perry.
oh yeah.
Eric is also an apprenitce Town Crier, with all of the authority , thereto to represent Los Angeles, in the Capacity of a town crier
