One of the more interesting sights Downtown is filming. When it's
a big budget production like Dreamworks was doing this weekend, it will gather
crowds. If it's a car wreck that also includes a taxi and a military
vehicle with a sci-fi look, plus the street designed to look like an explosion
tore it up; you get even a bigger crowd. Here on Broadway between 8th and
9th street, the Sunday shopping crowd was very attentive even during a
lull while the next shot was being set-up.
Someone was very aware of the demographics of the Broadway
crowd with traffic signs flashing warnings of explosions and detours
in both English and Spanish. As for the industry standard "consent
form" that was posted on a sign protecting liability, studios may want
to also consider posting a bilingual sign in an area that is known for a Spanish
speaking crowd.
